Major update to be released on March

Vladimir V. Tuporshin — February 11, 2008

We plan to release significantly updated version of Shop-Script PREMIUM at the end of March 2008.
New version will be named WebAsyst Shopping Cart because it will work as one of applications of WebAsyst Suite (a collection of services for group collaboration).

Currently WebAsyst Shopping Cart is already available as a hosted service (create a free account to test it). In March we will introduce downloadable version.

Here is a brief list of some advantages over Shop-Script PREMIUM:

  • Built-in WYSIWYG design editor for easy design customization (watch video tutorial) and smooth software update — no hassle with storefront design update
  • Full multi-lingual support — you will be able to enter and present product information in many languages simultaneously
  • Discount coupons feature
  • Add-to-cart widgets will allow you to integrate shopping cart feature into any website or blog
  • Add as many administrator users as you wish and customize access rights
  • User-friendly URLs for product and category pages
  • Optimized for databases with over 10000 products
  • Flash sales reports
  • Will work as one of WebAsyst applications — this means you will be able to install other WebAsyst applications directly into your installation and get powerful tools within your store backend (other WebAsyst modules provide tools for file storage and sharing, contact management, email marketing, project management, issue tracking and more).
  • Automated software update wizard
  • Many improvements in backend management interface and storefront

New version will require PHP 5.
Will not work on PHP 4 — since PHP 4 is no longer supported officially (see php.net), we switched to PHP 5 either.

We will offer all users of Shop-Script PRO and Shop-Script PREMIUM software packages free upgrades to WebAsyst Shopping Cart. Upgrade wizard will be included with the new version and will transfer all your data from Shop-Script database.
WebAsyst Shopping Cart price for first time buyers will remain $299 (as for Shop-Script PREMIUM).

Can you please elaborate on Discount Coupons?

  5. Great! I have tested multilingual support (products and auxiliary pages can now be in more than 1 language) and it works great! Also the presentation storefront layout designer WYSIWYG tool is great. I hope I can soon upgrade to this new version.

  6. Is there any way to incorporate a Price discount based on quantity breaks ? I have been waiting for this for a while, and I am sure that others would like it as well.

Thanks and Great job on the Update!

  7. I’m sorry, but in the first release this feature will not be supported. We plan integrating it in the future releases, after initial release will be ready and delivered to our customers.

  11. Hi, are the requirments going to change? Like ion cude or zend… Thanks

    Comment by victor — February 27, 2008 @ 1:32 am

  13. Do you have any idea when this update will be out?
Just about to launch a new site but maybe it’s better to wait until the updated version is out?

    Comment by Christian — February 28, 2008 @ 12:13 pm

  14. Great news thank you!

Anything on the horizon for New Zealand postal shipping?

Also, would the installer allow me to have my exisiting Shop Script shop running parallel with the updated version in order to ensure that the updated version is running smoothly before allowing customers to access it?

All the best, and thank you,
    Gina

  15. Please read blog post itself — we plan to release in at the end of March.
I may suggest you to subscribe to our WebAsyst Shopping Cart service (http://www.webasyst.net/shop/) — in this case it will be very easy for you to transfer all data to the new updated version (both design and products).
Sign up for WebAsyst Shopping Cart service is free.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — February 29, 2008 @ 1:46 am

  16. Gina,

Yes, you will be able to run both versions parallel until you decide to switch to the newer version completely.

Sorry, but New Zealand shipping module will not be included in the newer version.
If you have some considerations regarding this shipping module, please email it to support [at] shop-script.com.

  20. We urgently need the coupon code inbuilt into shop script, i hope it comes with new version

    Comment by matt — March 6, 2008 @ 6:45 pm

  21. Yes, this will be supported in the new version.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 7, 2008 @ 1:38 am

  22. Hi
    The update looks amazing,
Would it be possible to make a widget that can list a numer od products?

    /August

    Comment by August — March 7, 2008 @ 5:38 am

  23. No, this will not be supported. At least in the first release.

The only way to list many products on one page using widgets is to add each product by a separate widget.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 7, 2008 @ 5:45 am

  24. + products as RSS feeds would be a very handsome feature!

    Comment by August — March 7, 2008 @ 5:50 am

  25. Consider using shopping cart widgets supported in WebAsyst Shopping Cart.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 10, 2008 @ 1:48 pm

  26. i am looking for a thumbnail picture which can be shown in the admin order history next to product code and order details email. can you make it available this feature in this release . this must have option?

    Comment by mansor — March 12, 2008 @ 4:22 am

  27. i also suggest that you can add image option which we can use only 1 large image which can be auto resizable . small, medium, large.
otherwise we have difficulty to prepare 3 pictures in the photoshop which takes too long ans wasting time.

    Comment by mansor — March 12, 2008 @ 4:25 am

  28. In WebAsyst Shopping Cart images are resized automatically.

For now we don’t plan to integrate product thumbnails in the email notification. At least not in the nearest release.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 12, 2008 @ 5:56 am

  29. @ mansor

Can’t you automate your Photoshop save function so it can save multiple versions of an image? Should be possible…

  30. Is this new major upgraded release still on schedule?
When can I expect to download it?

I need to work on a new store & may wait for it instead of updating to it.

    Comment by FireFish — March 13, 2008 @ 10:50 am

  31. FireFish, currently we still expect to release it in the end of March.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 14, 2008 @ 1:49 am

  32. Awesome. Thanks, Vladimir.

I’ve put this project on hold until then.

    Comment by FireFish — March 19, 2008 @ 3:10 pm

  33. When this release will finally be released? The month is nearly over, would you be so kind and tell exact date for download?

    Comment by Darius — March 24, 2008 @ 2:48 pm

  34. Hi Darius,
I’m afraid we will not be able to release it on time.
We decided to add several must-have features such as editing and adding orders right from backend, plus discount coupons which are not still supported. Currently we perform testing on various hosting platforms.

This week I will post an additional blog post regarding release… I expect it take us a couple of weeks. I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 25, 2008 @ 12:30 am

  35. This sounds very unprofessional and disappointing. Couldn’t this be done via your so called new upgrade system? I guess I am not the only one who has lots of work on hold till new version comes out. I hope least last years bug has been fixed when logged customer adds item to shopping cart, logs out and then later returned he is able to proceed to checkout even if item is long time gone or removed from backend (quantity listed -1 or worse), this is critical to sellers with one of the kind merchandise.

    Comment by Darius — March 25, 2008 @ 1:23 am

  36. PS

I have ordered shop-script PREMIUM in late 2006 and since then I have not found a single update apart from design “look & feel” as you call. Since last years summer I have reported this bug to your support and I was told it will be tackled just in new version of script. Now is spring 2008 and again nothing. I have lots of unhappy customers just for this bug alone.

    Comment by Darius — March 25, 2008 @ 1:33 am

  37. Will URL’s to product pages be the same in the new version? I mean, will existing links on external websites to certain products in my webshop still work after I have installed the new version?

    Comment by Lieven — March 25, 2008 @ 3:08 am

  38. Of course, old URLs will be supported.
New style user friendly URLs are optional (you will be able to configure it in store settings).

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — March 25, 2008 @ 3:12 am

  39. I have to agree with Darius I too have the same bug problem along with that my Paypal module has stopped working. I have been waiting to get this fixed. Was advised to upgrade to the new version. I was looking forward to the new release at the end of the month.

    Comment by Paul — March 25, 2008 @ 8:48 am

  40. I have ordered my shopping cart premium just 2 days ago , hoping to get the new release by the end of this month as promised or get my money back, i can see that this company is not so professional,. they promised something and never do it on time.
hope to hear from you guys. i don’t like liars.
    thanks.

    Comment by Ajimu — March 26, 2008 @ 3:29 pm

  41. I have been a user of PREMIUM for several months. The system is not usable because of weak features. I am waiting for the upgrade with hopes I can start using the system. When will we be notified of this upgrade?

    Comment by Dale — March 27, 2008 @ 5:26 am

  42. [...] everything else that was already announced (all features of WebAsyst Shopping cart web-service, discount coupons) [...]

    Is this an open source?
